2.The epidemic of inactivity
Statistics
-
Fifty-eight million Americans are seriously overweight and in
poor physical condition.
-
One in three adults in this country is considered obese.
-
It is estimated that
over half of all adults
in the United States is at least somewhat overweight.
-
In 1998 alone, 300,000 deaths resulted from overweight-related
diseases.
-
The prevalence of obesity
grew a shocking 40% between 1980 and 1990.
-
Obesity
-- which is medically defined as being 20% above your healthy body
weight -- is a dangerous condition.
